The Lamp of Childhood - First Time, Last Time

Forming in 1966, The Lamp of Childhood were all over before the end of the following year. During their brief existence they released three excellent singles including "First Time, Last time" in March 1967. The band had little commercial success and is better known for its members connections to other groups. Jim Hendricks (vocals and guitar) was the husband of Cass Elliot of The Mamas and Papas. They had previously performed together in New York based groups The Big 3 and The Mugwumps. Billy Mundi (Drums) went on to perform as a member of Frank Zappa's The Mothers of Invention. Gabriel Mekler (keyboard) became the producer for a number of Steppenwolf's albums and John York, who replaced Hendricks in June 1967, eventually ended up playing with The Byrds.
